ABOUT: We have partnered with the school, Spanish Marks to screen "Pelo Malo," the award-winning film from Venezuela tackling homophobia and anti-Blackness in Latin America. Spanish with English subtitles.
The story centres on a young boy who hates his Afro-textured hair and does everything he can to straighten it. His mother, however, takes it as a sign the boy might be gay and takes some truly horrifying steps to try and ensure that he isn’t.
Pelo Malo is a rare look into Latin American race relations, where racism is often a taboo subject. The film received global praise for it's stand-out performances
